Walking in Casares

  • Casares sits on top of a hill in the Sierra Cristallina mountains between Ronda and the Costa del Sol, in Malaga’s province. The landscape varies from mountains, to cultivated fields, olive trees down to the Mediterranean sea, and as you can guess also the walking routes enjoy the same variety.
  • An interesting path is the one that reaches the sulfur baths of the Helionda, already well known at the time of Julius Caesar, who supposedly stopped here for a cure on his way back to Rome.
  • If you rather hike further into the Sierra Cristallina, you will find routes that are a bit more challenging, giving you the chance to observe closely the Mediterranean vegetation, and watch vultures and eagles flying high over your head.
