Surfing in Andalucia

  • Surf is not just a sport but a way of life, which saw its origins in 1778, when Captain James Cook watched for the first time the natives of Hawaii moving across the sea waters on a wooden table.
  • Today surfers travel the globe in search of waves and Spain and Andalusia are more often part of this trip.
  • The western coast of Andalusia, on the Atlantic Ocean, offers many spots to surf, especially from September to March, thanks to the strong easterly wind. From Cadiz to Tarifa there is a succession of beaches and surfing spots with great potential, some well known and other more secret. The Mediterranean side is more for beginners, making it a perfect learning spot but without underestimating the strength of the winds, which can be very powerful also on this side of Andalucia.
